Committing to my health has been a journey.
Throughout my career, discipline has been my compass to getting stuff done. Whether it was navigating complex challenges, or striving for the next big opportunity. It’s about showing up every day and making consistent, deliberate choices to achieve long term goals — even when they’re difficult.
But as I reflected back on my life at 45, I realized I wasn’t applying that same discipline to my health and fitness. I spent decades prioritizing what mattered most in my professional life, yet my personal well-being came second—or not at all. When I decided to commit to running, I leaned into that same sense of discipline. Progress in fitness wasn’t immediate—it required perseverance, focus, and a willingness to push through setbacks.
Now, with several races behind me, running has become more than a fitness activity- it’s a testament to the values I live by: resilience, determination, and the willingness to set ambitious goals and see them through. And I’m just getting started.
Where I Started in 2023: Turning Setbacks into Stepping Stones after fracturing my foot.
Training for my first half marathon in 2023, I faced a major setback: a fractured bone in my foot that left me temporarily on crutches and then in a boot, limiting my mobility and putting most of my everyday activities on pause. It was an unexpected reminder of how quickly things we take for granted can change. Yet, rather than letting it define a limit, I decided to make it a starting point.
First, I had to accept my new situation and adapt. I started doing upper body and core workouts every day to manage stress and maintain body strength. I tried lots of alternatives to crutches to help me stay mobile and as self-sufficient as I could. There were many falls, calluses in new places and days so frustrating that all I could do was cry.
As I continued to recover, I committed to training for my first half marathon—a goal that I had postponed many times in the past due to work or family obligations. It now felt even more ambitious and daunting given where I was starting from.
Using the Peloton app and countless hours first on the treadmill then running on city streets, I found myself rebuilding strength step by step. Each training session wasn’t just about physical recovery; it was about proving to myself that determination could transform challenges into victories.
Crossing that first half-marathon finish line brought an immense sense of pride—not just for the race itself, but for completing a goal I’d set despite the obstacles. It’s a reminder to keep pushing forward, no matter how hard the road may seem.
Stronger, Lighter, Happier - Crossing Finish Lines in Life and Health
This photo captures a proud moment—my second half marathon in a year, 30 pounds lighter, and feeling stronger and happier than ever. Each step of this journey has been a testament to resilience, discipline, and the power of showing up for myself.
Rediscovering discipline and resilience in fitness has reignited my focus on achieving my career goals with the same energy and purpose. Just as I’ve crossed these finish lines, I’m ready to tackle the next milestones in my professional journey.
